Rare map of Portugal published by Jollain in 1667. The map was published in the work Trésor Des Cartes Geographiques Des Principaux Estats de Lunivers, which was first published by Jollain in 1660, then in 1667 and again in 1687. Jollain’s atlas is based upon Jean Boisseau’s atlas from 1643, which was the first world atlas published in France and a derivative of Atlas Minor from 1628.
The atlas was so popular, that later similar publications were produced by, among other, Berey, Picart, Duval and De Fer. The plates used for Jollain’s atlas were later modified for the 1667 edition, where “Jollain execudit 1667” was added to some of the plates. The same plates were used again for the 1687 edition, where the only difference is the title page, which states the year 1687 and has another address.
